Obituary

Robert Wayne Key, Jr. (Bob) was born on September 8, 1953 in Sullivan, Missouri. Bob went to Sullivan High School, where he met his lifelong love, Sue. Bob and Sue married in 1973, and Bob joined the Navy a year later and was stationed in Alameda, California, where he worked on airplanes. After the Navy, Bob studied engineering at the University of Missouri at Rolla, earning a degree in civil engineering.

In May of 1980, he began a career as a petroleum engineer at Amoco Production Company in Brownfield, Texas. In 1984, he and Sue moved to Tulsa. In 2011, he founded a successful oil & gas company, Taylor Energy, partnering with Alan Mikell. Alan was Bob's best friend and like another brother to him.

Bob had many talents. Carpenter. Pilot. Basement organizer. Choir singer. Hunter. Fisherman. Jewelry mechanic. Toy fixer. Grill chef. Cyclist. Bob could fix just about everything. He learned how to ride horses, so he could ride with his daughter, Sammy.

Bob was blessed with a sunny disposition and relished the simple joys of life: Driving in his truck with a truck dog and the windows down, listening to country music. Perfecting a new recipe on the grill to share with family and friends. Spending countless hours out on the water, catching fish. Or sipping coffee at the diner, talking with friends. An extrovert at heart, Bob loved talking with everybody, including wait staff at restaurants.

Bob retired in 2020 and spent his final years enjoying time with his family, riding his bike along Riverside Drive in Tulsa, walking his dogs, and enjoying his cabin at Lake Eufaula, scheming up new ways to outwit the crappie.

Bob passed away on April 16, 2024, at the age of 70. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Sr.; his mother, Maxene; and his niece, Alicia. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sue; his daughter Sammy; son-in-law Alex; his three grandchildren, Arlo, Faye, and Ivy; sister Karen Adams (CW); brother Donnie Key; brother Kenny Key; and sister-in-law Karen Burgess (Keith) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins whom Bob loved dearly.
