Obituary

Robert Joseph Quintana was born June 19, 1936, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to Melecio and Mary Quintana. The youngest of nine children "Bobby" was the baby of the family and the cutest he would say. He got away with everything growing up and some of his favorite childhood memories were raiding the ice truck, playing "snipe hunting" in White Rose Cemetery near his home, hopping the train to town on the rails, playing football, rubber band gun fights, going to the YMCA, swimming with his siblings and cousins at Sana pool, and creating plays. At Christmas, he loved receiving a silver dollar and a bag of candy from Phillips Petroleum. He convinced his school to 'Start' hosting the eighth-grade prom. He fondly recalled not only pulling the event together but also teaching his friends how to dance with girls. At College High School he enjoyed playing in the Rhythm Band, lettered on the football team, and played on the basketball team.

His first car, a blue Oldsmobile sedan, was courtesy of his sister and brother-in-law, Leta and Tom Weathersby. Something he treasured and never forgot.

Bob attended Oklahoma State University for a semester but with his four older brothers off fighting WW2, he chose to leave school and return home to care for his beloved father. He later attended Tulsa University and eventually graduated from Northeastern State University. Bob's career path led to finance where he attended Graduate Banking School at School of the South at Louisiana State University. He spent most of his career as a Vice President of F&M Bank in Tulsa where he once scuffed a new pair of shoes chasing and catching a real-life bank robber. That was Bob, always in the middle of a newsworthy event! He later helped lead the MBA program starting at Oral Roberts University. In his retirement, Bob started his third and favorite career joining his daughter Elizabeth working at Carlson Marketing Group as travel staff where assignments took him all over the world. He worked the Atlanta and Sydney Summer Olympics, met CEO's, rock bands, movie stars, athletes, and was affectionately known as 'Quintana Bob.'

Bob met JoAnn Haslett in the library at Northeastern State during class registration. They married on November 20, 1965, and were blessed with Beth and Jill. Bob referred to JoAnn as his closest advisor and best friend. They shared a life of joy, OSU Cowboys, traveling extensively through Europe and almost all of the 50 states including a wild 2 week car ride with the young girls going to 20+ states and Canada in a station wagon complete with a "grub box" provided by JoAnn including her famous meatloaf, fried chicken, and his favorite dessert, fudge. Bob and JoAnn enjoyed dinner clubs, real estate ventures, teaching and family vacations with Jim and Joy Walker. They celebrated 50 years together before JoAnn passed away on May 30th, 2015.

Bob was a fun-loving and humble man who was deeply dedicated to his faith as a member of Christ the King Catholic Church where he sang in the choir for 53 years before retiring due to the stairs. He served as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, ACTS retreatant, and on the ACTS Leadership Team. He was also an active member of the men's Bible study group.

Bob adored his family near and far. He will be remembered as the glue who held family together during difficult times and the life of the party. Bob was always quick to offer a kind word, see the best in others, and provide a positive outlook. Becoming a GRANDPAPA to his three grandchildren was life's biggest joy as he could relive and retell his childhood antics and see his grandchildren continue his fondness of sports as Joseph lettered in Tennis, William lettered in football, and Sarah became a level 6 aerial silks performer.

Bob was blessed with lifelong and new friends including his Tuesday lunch crew.

Bob loved his community and was active in Leadership Tulsa (Class VIII and member of the selection committee). He served as treasurer for the March of Dimes, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Hispanic American Foundation, and the Knights of Columbus. He was active in the YMCA Board (8 years), American School of Banking, United Way, and the Red Glove Review (boy did we all love to see him dance in that every year). He was proud of his 20 years of service as both a Precinct Leader with the Tulsa County Election Board (Vote!) and a Gillie at Gilcrease Museum.

Just shy of 90, Bob passed away peacefully surrounded by family and prayer on Friday, May 8, 2026, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Bob is preceded in death by his loving wife JoAnn Haslett Quintana, parents Melecio and Mary de Jesus Quintana; in-laws Mary Jane and Joe Haslett, siblings David Quintana, Emanuel Quintana, Raymond Quintana, Fred Quintana, Bill Quintana, Beatrice Sanbrano, Betty Taylor; sisters-in-law Bobbie Quintana, Rosemary Quintana, Modean Luecke, brothers-in-law Ralph Taylor, John Sanbrano and Tom Weathersby. He leaves behind his daughters, Elizabeth Quintana Dickerson and Jill Quintana Hughes, and son-in-law Bill Hughes III; grandchildren Joseph and Sarah Dickerson and William Hughes IV, and a large and loving family including sister Leta Weathersby, sister-in-law Delores Quintana and wonderful nieces, nephews, and cousins.
