Robert Charles Thompson, 88, passed from this life to meet his Lord on January 7, 2024, at Clarehouse in Tulsa. He was born on November 16,1935, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Charles Amos Thompson and Marie May Thompson. He received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from the University of Wisconsin and his Doctorate of Philosophy from the University of Oklahoma, along with certifications in both Speech and Audiology. He was Director of Speech and Hearing at Children's Medical Center in Tulsa for 15 years. He then became a professor at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, where he remained until his retirement in 2019. He was well known in his field, giving numerous presentations both in the United States and internationally.
He loved opera and visited some of the most famous opera houses in the world. His journeys took him to such places as Australia, Europe, South America and Egypt. He was an active member of Holy Family Cathedral and served on the board of The Griffin Promise Autism Clinic. Often, he could be spotted on the River Park Trails walking his beloved dachshund, Louie. He frequented Torchy's Tacos and Arnold's Hamburgers.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Amos Thompson and mother, Marie May Thompson; sister Janice Thompson Himes; and a niece Pandora (Simmons) Allread. He is survived by nieces and nephews John Simmons of Washington, Andrea (Simmons) Chilack of California, Christopher Simmons of California, David Simmons of Oregon, and Sherry Simmons of Washington. He also had 8 great-nieces and great-nephews.
A rosary is scheduled for Friday, January 26th at 7:00 pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 27th at 1:00 pm. Both services will be at Holy Family Cathedral in downtown Tulsa.
