Obituary

Dr. Robert Stanley White died at home on November 6, 2012. He was born February 12, 1933 in Georgetown, LA. He graduated Valedictorian of his class at Georgetown High School in 1951. He then attended Louisiana State University for both undergraduate and medical studies. He graduated Valedictorian from the medical school in 1959.

Dr. White then did a rotating internship at Madigan Army Hospital in Tacoma, WA while serving in the US Air Force. He returned to Louisiana to do a residency in clinical and anatomical pathology at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. During this time, he met and married his wife Nora.

In mid 1965, they came to Tulsa where he joined a pathology partnership at St. Francis Hospital. Dr. White continued to work there until 2007. During his 42 years at St. Francis, his pathology group served a number of hospitals in the outlying areas of Tulsa. He was Laboratory Director at many of these hospitals and held numerous hospital staff appointments. His group also created a private pathology practice of which he was Laboratory Director.

Dr. White always had a strong interest in teaching and education. As such, he was an Assistant Adjunct Professor of Pathology at Oklahoma University School of Medicine. Senior year medical students rotated with him. He also served for many years as an instructor and as the Director of the St. Francis Hospital School of Medical Technology.

After leaving St. Francis, he continued to work in pathology at outlying hospitals and in particular at the Veterans Hospital in Muskogee. He loved his work and was most disappointed that illness forced a stop in his practice.

In his personal life, Dr. White was an avid social tennis player for many years. He was a founding member of Philcrest Tennis Club. He also enjoyed planting the many shrubs and plants in the yard of his home. His labors were recognized many times by the inclusion of the home's garden on the Tulsa Garden Club's annual Garden Tour. The White's garden has also been the setting for several weddings and beautiful garden parties over the years. In recent years, woodworking became his hobby of choice and many friends and family were the proud recipients of his beautiful handy work.

Dr. White was preceded in death by his parents Nettie and George White and by his half brother Gaston England and his sister Betty Garrett. He is survived by his wife Nora, elder daughter Perri White of Dallas, Tx; son Robert White ,Jr.and his wife Kirsten and their daughters Sarah and Caroline of Tulsa; younger daughter Erin and her husband John McDermott and their children Douglas and Eleanor of Tulsa; and his older sister Bonna White, husband Floyd White and youngest sister Sue all of Baton Rouge, LA.
