Robert "Bob" Jan Wiruth, 81 years old of Tulsa, OK, passed away April 14, 2024. He fiercely fought cancer for 16 years, defying all odds.
Bob was born in Garden City, KS to Fred and Glenna Wiruth, spent some early years in Millstadt, IL, but grew up in Wakeeney, Kansas. He developed an early love of farming working with his Grandad Moody, and later that love extended to managing Wiruth Farms, LLC. He became a proud Kansas State Wildcat. There he was a member and served as President of FarmHouse Fraternity which he credits as shaping his life. Kansas State is also where he met and married the "best dressed girl on campus". He graduated with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering and spent his career in the petroleum industry, starting with Continental Pipeline (Conoco) and moving to Tulsa with Williams Cos. He later purchased Transport Delivery Co., from E.R. Minshall Jr., which operated in Missouri and Illinois while headquartered in Tulsa.
Bob was a dedicated Rotarian in the Rotary Club of Tulsa where he was a Paul Harris Fellow and a Community Fellow. After retirement he enjoyed singing with the Rotary Men of Note and ringing the Salvation Army bell during the holidays. Bob was invested in his son's rise to Eagle Scout, which included organizing a Boundary Water trip for his son's Scout troop, and shared in other Scout trips to Philmont and Glacier National Park.
Bob is proceeded in death by his parents, Fred and Glenna Wiruth, and his infant sister, Cheryl Wiruth.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sheryl; his daughter, Tiffany Brooks (Byron) and their children, Read and Cashier; his son, Brent, and his children, Cameron and Carson; in addition to his brother, Don Wiruth (Treva).
The family wishes to thank the caregivers who provided loving care and support to both Bob and Sheryl in the late stages of his battle with cancer.
