Rogers Luke Hornsby (Buster) was born, August 24, 1948 at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was the first born of Leatrice (Delpit) Hornsby and Roger Hornsby.
Rogers L. Hornsby met Josephine Theresa Jones in 1971, fell in love, and they were married on December 11, 1971. Rogers was a loving and devoted husband to Theresa for forty-two years. Together they were blessed with six (6) children; Ilona Gibson, Keenyara, Tenishea, Venita, Andrew, and Ashley.
Buster and Theresa lived in New Orleans, Louisiana until the early 1970's when they decided to move to Tulsa, Oklahoma with their three (3) children. Once in Oklahoma, they were blessed with two more daughters and a son. Through the years Rogers role took on a new dimension when five (5) grandchildren were added to the family, Kyera, Bryanna, Christopher, Bria, and Natalie. Additional blessing were his great grandchildren, Alaila, Serenity, and Trinity. He's well known as "Pawpaw".
Buster worked for the U.S. Postal Service, Western Electric, and became an independent electrician for a number of years. He later was awarded his disability for service in the Viet Nam War. He did volunteer work with the Tulsa Public Schools, as a crisis counselor for challenged youth, and coached football at Cleveland Middle and Central High Schools. Received recognition from Oklahoma Special Olympics for volunteer services. Worked with Katrina Victims that were housed temporarily at Camp Gruber.
His family was the center of his life as a stay at home dad, raising his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and any other children who sought his counsel. He loved the outdoors, especially working in the sun; he would say "the sun gives me energy". He had a love for antique cars and fishing, was an avid motor cycle rider, and loved to cook and entertain.
To know him was to love him, and to befriend him was a lifelong investment. There was never a dull moment with Buster because his personality and sense of humor kept a smile on your face and laughter in your heart. His heart-felt compassion for people was evident in his actions. In his lifetime he counseled many youth who will be forever grateful. Whenever a friend would call upon him, he was there ready, willing and able to help in any way he could.
Funeral Mass will be Thursday, May 29th, 10:00 a.m., at Holy Family Cathedral, Tulsa.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages friends to contribute to his favorite cause, Special Olympics. Memorial gifts can be mailed to: Special Olympics Oklahoma, 6835 S Canton Ave, Ste A, Tulsa, OK 74136 or

CRY NOT
DO NOT WEEP FOR ME, FOR I AM IN COMFORT AND PEACE WITH THE LORD. HIS ARMS SURROUND ME WITH A LOVE UNKNOWN TO MAN OR ANY HUMAN. THERE IS NO COLD, NOR HOT; NO WORDS SPOKEN, JUST PURE LOVE.
AS OF YET, I HAVE SEEN NO ONE FROM THE PAST, BUT, I AM SURE THEY ARE WAITING TO SEE ME. DO NOT WEEP FOR ME, BUT BE GLAD FOR I AM AT PEACE. WEEP FOR THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL HAVE TO LIVE WITH IN A WORLD FILLED WITH HATE, DESTRUCTION, GREED AND PAIN; FOR THIS IS EVERTHING THAT'S WRONG IN YOUR WORLD. PEOPLE HAVE STOPPED HELPING EACH OTHER AND HAVE CONSUMED THEMSELVES WITHIN THEMSELVES.
I WILL ASK GOD TO HELP OTHERS TO OPEN THEIR HEARTS AND MINDS AND NOT JUST SEEK OUT WHAT IS RIGHT, BUT TO DO WHAT HE HAS ALWAYS PLANNED FOR- JUSTICE, LOVE, CARING, HELPING ALL WHO ARE IN NEED- REGARDLESS OF WHERE THEY COME FROM OR WHO THEY MAY APPEAR TO BE.
GOD PLANTED LOVE IN EACH OF US WHEN WE WERE BORN. SOME HAVE COVERED IT, BUT IT'S STILL INSIDE OF EVERYONE. FIND A WAY TO LET IT OUT. PEACE IS WITHIN ALL OF US. LOVE GOD!!! FOR HE LOVES YOU!
ROGERS L. HORNSBY
