Ron McGarrie, 88, died peacefully on February 3, 2022, after a long illness. He was born February 17, 1933, in Ridgewood, NJ to James and Abby McGarrie. They lived in New York City and on Long Island before moving to Tulsa in 1946, and to Shreveport, Louisiana in 1953. There he met Carole Johnson. They were married on September 8, 1956, and moved several times before settling in Tulsa, in 1967.
Ron graduated from TU with a BS in Management and was employed by Cities Service until his retirement in 1989. He subsequently went to work for Saffa Pharmacy for the next 13 years handling their finances. After that, Ron could be found twice a week at the Information Desk in Saint Francis Children's Hospital. He enjoyed family gatherings, gardening, cars, and making people laugh. Dancing with Carole to Big Band music and traveling here and abroad were also his favorites.
Ron is survived by his loving wife Carole, daughter Kathie Ward and her husband Sean; son Ken McGarrie and his wife Morgen; grandchildren Patrick Ward, Kellory Blanchard and her husband Rusty, Bailey Ward, and Talon Ward; great grandchildren Abbey Blanchard, Noah Blanchard, Emmett Blanchard, Miles Blanchard; and sister-in-law Martha Johnson. He was preceded in death by Jim and Abby McGarrie, sister Sandra Lewis, mother-in-law Helen Johnson and brother-in-law Don Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma and/or Clarehouse. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the caring staff at Saint Francis Hospice, Amanda Senior Care and Clarehouse.
