Rosanne Marie Campbell Edwards died on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2018, surrounded by her family. Beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, wife, sister, and friend, Rosanne is survived by six children, 16 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, eight nieces and nephews and many, many friends.
Rosanne, the first child of James Gordon Campbell and Marie Emilie Baldwin Campbell, was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on May 18, 1929. She attended the University of Wisconsin, where she earned a degree in psychology and, like her mother before her, three daughters and one granddaughter after, was a proud member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She married her college sweetheart, Douglas Edwards, in 1951, and moved to Houston, Texas. Doug began a career in corporate sales, which took their young family to a number of cities before they landed in Tulsa in 1961.
She and Doug built a happy life in Tulsa's Maple Ridge neighborhood, making friendships that lasted a lifetime. Rosanne relished her role as a homemaker and active mom, serving as a Den mother and Campfire leader, while always getting a home cooked meal on the table by 6:00, sharp. Her home was warm, welcoming, loving and tidy. In the early '70s Rosanne became a travel agent, ultimately opening her own agency, Mayfair Travel, in 1980, which thrived through the next decade. Travel was a passion she shared with Doug, and they took many trips in the U.S. and abroad until his death in 1990.
After Doug's passing, her travel and other adventures continued with family and friends. She was always willing to do her part to make her community a better place. Her compassion for those in need and love of community led her to become active in Resurrection Catholic Church, Gilcrease Museum, Meals on Wheels, Neighbor for Neighbor and the Perennial Club, as well as being a reading tutor in the Tulsa Public Schools. An avid and gifted gardener, she could make the most hopeless plant flourish.
Rosanne loved nothing more than spending time with her children and grandchildren. She cheered on her grandkids at countless soccer, football and volleyball games and theatrical performances, proudly earning the Outstanding Fan award for her support of the 2008 Cascia Hall wrestling team. She had a generous sense of humor, an infectious laugh and a knack for making teenagers feel comfortable in their own skin. She passed on her love of art, theatre and all things beautiful to her grandchildren by taking them to art exhibits and Broadway shows, and by giving extemporaneous gardening lessons to all who would listen.
She will be deeply and profoundly missed.
She was predeceased by her husband of 39 years, Douglas Edwards, her parents and her brother, James Baldwin Campbell. She is survived by her children and their families: Peter Edwards, wife Rose, daughter Sara and husband Arsi Sefaj, son Bill; Jim Edwards, wife Nancy, daughter Rose Daugherty, son Josh Daugherty and wife Anne and children Mel, Rory and Lars, daughter Claire Edwards, and son Riley Edwards and wife Emily; daughter Barbara Edwards Paige, husband Dee, son David Paige and wife Cyntreva and children Levin and Corven, son Kyle Paige, wife Natalie and son Ellis; daughter Annie and husband Seth Piper; daughter Susan Edwards Cuellar, husband Felix, daughter Grace and son Joe; daughter Carol Edwards Owens, husband Greg, sons Will and George and daughter Emma; and Nancy Edwards, husband Richard Heffernan, son Conor and daughter Audrey.
Services for Rosanne Edwards will be at Resurrection Catholic Church on Saturday, October 6, at 1 pm.
