Roy Stake was born on March 28, 1918 in Morris, Oklahoma to parents James Edward Stake and Elvina (Dalcour) Stake. He was the second of six brothers and sisters and one of a blended family of 14 children.
Roy attended schools in Boynton, Oklahoma, until he had to take responsibility of running the farm. When he was of age, he enlisted in the United States Army during World War II. As a truck driver and construction foreman, he also mastered sharp-shooting marksmanship. Roy served his country six years, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant, before being honorably discharged.
He met and married Mary Elizabeth (Hollier) and worshipped as a devout member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. Roy and Mary were married for thirty plus years until Mary's death in 1975. To this union four children were born: Baby girl Stake, Roy, Jr., "Kaye", and Linwood.
When Roy met and married Rachel Cephus Fuselier in 1975, they created a blended family of 10 children. For 37 years Roy was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He retired from The City of Tulsa Refuse Department in 1980. He remained a devout Christian and dedicated member of St. Monica Parish and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus until his health started failing him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Elvina; eight sisters; one brother; daughters Rita and Baby girl Stake; and grandchildren: Tameka, Mary, Christian and Laymon.
Roy leaves, to cherish his memory, wife Rachel, children: Sharon Denise Prince (Marloe) of Houston, TX; Karen Kay Jones, Rhonda Everidge, Roy James Stake, Jr. (Beatrice), Rosalind Works (Renaldo), Kennard Joseph Fuselier (Lisa), Diana "Kaye" Brewer (Tim), Linwood Joseph Stake (Alene), all of Tulsa, OK; and Dr. Michelle L. Davis (Gary) of Baltimore, MD; twenty-eight grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Rosary will be said Friday, June 7, 7:00 p.m., and Funeral Mass will be Saturday, 10:00 a.m., both at St. Monica Parish, 633 East Marshall Place, Tulsa, OK 74106. Interment with military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Tulsa.
