Obituary

Ruben Caluag Laus, M.D. 87 years old, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on January 1, 2022 at St. John Medical Center Tulsa, OK. He was born in Manila, Philippines on December 15, 1934 to Carmen Caluag Laus, a pharmacist and Hermogenes Limpin Laus, a businessman.

Ruben finished his Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Zoology at the University of Santo Tomas in 1955, his Doctor of Medicine at the Manila Central University in 1962 and board certification obtained in 1963. He was an Internal Medicine-Surgery Resident at the US Veteran's Hospital in Quezon City, Philippines.

In 1964-1968, he was the University Physician and Professor of Botany and Zoology of the Mindanao State University in Marawi City. In 1969, he went to the United States with his wife and children and joined the Southern Monterey Medical Group in Southern California with Dr. Len Andrus, serving the poor migrant workers and their families in King City, CA for 8 years. He was an Internal Medicine Resident at the UCLA (University of California in Los Angeles) 1980-1982.

Ruben was with Cedar Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills and Century City Hospital as Head of the traveling Cardio-Pulmonary Function Testing Clinic, mostly dealing with asbestos lung disease patients. As a busy clinician, he was also helping his wife, Myra with their family business.

Ruben was an avid golfer, gardener, and a great cook. He was a talented artist (oil and acrylic painting) and even built their own sunroom. He also played the harmonica with excellence and gusto. He cherished his moments and time spent with his grandchildren and family. He was the Lions Club President in 1984-1985 District 4L-3 in Hollywood, CA.

Ruben was preceded in death by his parents, Carmen and Hermogenes, 2 brothers Oscar and Junior, and sister, Carmen. He was survived by his beloved and caring wife, Myra of 57 years, three loving children: Jennifer Dohmen and husband Steve, Myra Miell, and Ruben Jr and wife, Lynne. He has been blessed with seven grandchildren: Jazmin and Carmen( children of Jennifer D.), Andrew(wife Rosa), Sarah and Sophia (children of Myra M.), Kristen and Jett(Ruben III) (children of Ruben Jr) and one precious great grandson, Ramses, son of Andrew Miell.

Ruben will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandpa and a great physician. His cat, Meowy and his other pets will miss him too.
