Ruth Johnston Armstrong, age 78, passed away Friday, August 19, 2016 from a massive stroke.

Ruth, daughter of Leslie A. and Max Eugene Johnston, was born and raised in Tulsa, and graduated from Central High School. She received her Bachelors degree of Fine Arts at the University of Tulsa in 1971 and Masters of Arts in 1975. Ruth was a Kappa Kappa Gamma and a member of the Junior League. She was also a flight attendant for American Airlines in NYC.

Ruth, formerly married to Judge Richard V. Armstrong in 1964, is mother to Sarah (deceased), Rachel (50) and Rich (48) Armstrong.

Ruth among many other things was an accomplished artist. She was publicly commissioned by the Tulsa Performing Arts Center for 2 large tile murals and by the OSU Campus in Tulsa for exterior tile murals for 3 separate buildings.

Ruth has won many awards for her artwork and taught art courses at Tulsa University, Tulsa Junior College, Philbrook Art Center, Johnson Atelier, and on a private basis. A popular community artist, Ruth had a booth at Mayfest for years, was commissioned to create Penguins for The Tulsa Zoo, and donated her art for many charity auctions.

Ruth is survived by her daughter Rachel, son Rich, son-in-law Matt Miller, daughter-in-law Christa Armstrong, grandchildren Jack and Sydney Miller, Elisa and Mallory Armstrong, sisters Anna Carol Johnston Nelson, and Frances Johnston Stanier Allen.

Memorial Services will be 11 a.m., on Saturday, August 27, 2016, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 501 S. Cincinnati in Tulsa.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made To Trinity Episcopal Church for a memorial in Ruth's name.
