Ruth Anna Grindstaff Sturgeon, 72, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, December 15, 2014 at her home in Tulsa, Oklahoma after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Sturgeon was born May 19, 1942 to Thomas Haze Grindstaff and Lula Pearl Conrad Grindstaff in Patton, Missouri, the fifth of eight children. She graduated from Fredericktown High School in Fredericktown, Missouri in 1959 and soon after left for Tulsa, Oklahoma in search of employment opportunities. Shortly after arriving in Tulsa she met the love of her life, Richard Lavern Sturgeon, and they wed on June 4, 1961 at Glen Station Church of God in Tulsa. From their union she bore three sons.
Mrs. Sturgeon was a homemaker for several years before she returned to working outside the home. She held several positions with local companies, including Tulsa Public Schools, Wilbros, and the University of Oklahoma Schusterman Center.
The most important things in Mrs. Sturgeon's life were her faith and her family. She was a member of Calvary Temple Assembly of God Church and was never shy in expressing her faith. She faithfully participated in the ministry of the church until she became unable, due to her illness. Second only to her Lord, was the unconditional love she had for her family. Nothing brought her more joy than to have a house full of her family and to cook large, satisfying meals. Her homemade egg noodles were her specialty, and some of her grandchildren often referred to them as "Grandma's Famous Noodles."
Mrs. Sturgeon is survived by her sons, Richard Dale Sturgeon and wife Karen of Cleburne, Texas; Edwin Lavern Sturgeon of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Stephen Eric Sturgeon and wife Kristi of Bixby, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Wayne Edward Grindstaff and wife Helen of Marquand, Missouri, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Thomas Carroll Grindstaff, Donald Lee Grindstaff and Ronald Gene Grindstaff; and three sisters Mary Virginia Grindstaff Horton, Lorene Ellen Grindstaff Harvey and Lula Pearl Grindstaff.
Visitation will be at Fitzgerald Ivy Chapel, 1402 South Boulder Avenue, on Thursday, December 18th with the Family receiving visitors 5 – 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. on Friday, December 19, 2014 at Calvary Temple Assembly of God Church, with 3:00 p.m. Graveside rites at the Wann Cemetery in Wann, Oklahoma.
