Sally Jean Mattox was born November 10th 1950, in Eureka Kansas and passed away July 14, 2026. She came to Tulsa at age 3 and lived all of her life here loving it.
She was the beloved daughter of Ann and Bernie Mattox. She is survived by her brothers Jerry Mattox and his wife Kathleen of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jack Mattox and his wife Kathy of Longmont, Colorado, and her sister Judy Mattox and her husband Ken of Asheville, North Carolina. She is also survived by her nephews Pete, Steve, and Jake Mattox, as well as nieces Karen Mattox, Mary Ann Waldon, Michelle Raunikar, Elaine Bartlebaugh, and Christine Stewart along with 15 great nieces and and nephews.
Sally was a dear friend of the Town Village Retirement Community residents for 10 years. She was at her best playing Bingo and earned the title of "Bingo Queen." Sally dearly loved Town Village, often saying that the happiest years of her life were at Town Village. She especially cherished the friendship of Robin Thompson, the activities director; Patti Clewell, who was her caregiver and friend for many years, and Mary Jo Tubach, her daily lunch companion.
Sally also enjoyed traveling every year with her sister Judy and Judy's husband Ken to country music destinations like the Grand Ole Opry & the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville; Branson, Missouri; and Memphis where, of course, she hung out at Elvis's home. She attended every country music concert she possible could in Tulsa and especially loved Alan Jackson & George Strait. The musicians at Town Village always played "Mustang Sally" in her honor. The Blazer Brothers visited her in her apartment the day before she died to sing "Mustang Sally."
Viewing will be Friday, July 17th, at Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel from 4 - 6:30 pm and a Rosary and Vigil will follow at 7 PM. The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, the 18th, at 10 AM at Holy Family Cathedral in Tulsa.
An informal Memorial Service at Town Village will take place on Monday, July 20 at 2:30 PM for informal storytelling.
