Selma Wilner, age 89, passed away February 15, 2012 in Tulsa Oklahoma. She was born in New York City on March 28, 1922 to Philip and Frieda Goldstein.
Selma obtained her Bachelor's degree from New York University in 1942. She worked in New York City as a women's clothes buyer for Federated Department Stores.
On August 2, 1942 she married Sol Wilner. Selma and Sol relocated to Tulsa in 1948 when her husband was offered a job as a Radiologist. Selma or Selmer as many of her OKIE friends called her because of her heavy New York accent lived happily in Tulsa until her passing.
Selma and Sol, who passed away on October 31, 1999, had three sons and six grand-children. She is survived by her sons and daughter in laws: Philip (Janice) Wilner of Tulsa, Eric (Patricia) Wilner MD of Georgetown, MA, and Steven (Laura) Wilner, MD of Frisco, CO. Her grandchildren are Jess Wilner of Los Angeles, CA, Emily Wilner of San Francisco, CA, Jennifer Wilner of Brooklyn, NY., Alison Wilner of New York, NY., Gabe Wilner of Chicago, IL, and Lyle Wilner of Durango, CO. Selma's grandchildren were the loves of her life. They brought her years of happiness during periods of declining health.
Selma was a member of Temple Israel for over 50 Years. She was active in the council of Jewish Women, Brandeis study groups and was a longtime supporter of the arts including the Ballet, Symphony and Opera Company. She was an avid bridge player and many years ago could handle a golf club. Selma enjoyed entertaining and was a fabulous cook.
Graveside Service is 2 PM, Friday, February 17, 2012 at Rose Hill Cemetery, Old Jewish Section.
