Obituary

Shirley Haas Levin peacefully passed away Saturday, December 24 in her home at Zarrow Pointe in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Shirley was born in Tulsa, OK to Bess and Bill Haas on February 23, 1927. She lived in Tulsa for the first eighteen years of her life and attended Central High School and the University of Texas at Austin. At the age of 17 she met the love of her life, Norman Levin, at a dance for servicemen stationed in the Tulsa area. Their first date was going to the Delman Theater to see "Yankee Doodle Dandy" and, from then on, they were a twosome.

Two months after Norm's discharge from the Air Force, Shirley came home from the University of Texas; they were engaged and married June 30, 1946 at B'nai Emunah Synagogue where she worked for 30 years.

Shirley and Norman raised 3 children, volunteered in their schools, the synagogue and B'nai B'rith Youth Organization. She was best known for her writing talents including speeches, poetry, and parodies of songs and scripts of countless plays used to fundraise for various community causes. She was also an essential historian of Jewish Tulsa that goes back three generations. She loved her 30 years of volunteering at the Tulsa Jewish Retirement and Healthcare Center, now known as Zarrow Pointe, where she and Norman lived for over 15 years.

Shirley had many loves: her family, her Judaism, her wide range of long friendships and young people. She always welcomed youth into her home for advice, listening and comfort. She listened without judgment and could be trusted without fail.

Shirley is predeceased by her parents, her husband and her son, Randy and son-in-law, Lance Dubois. She is survived by her daughter Linda Levin Dubois of Tulsa, her daughter Debbie Levin Jardot (Leo) of McLean, VA, daughter-in-law Susie Lerner Levin of Northbrook, IL, grandchildren Elissa Levin, Nicole Dubois Hitchcock (Mitchell), Michael Dubois (Leah), Amy Levin Anshell (Adam), Benjamin Jardot (Sarah Moses) and Maggie Jardot (Will Cabral). She also leaves six beloved great-grandchildren, two nieces, and many cousins.

The family would like to thank the loving staff at Zarrow Pointe, Miller Hospice and the outpouring of love and support of friends, extended family and clergy. In lieu of flowers, donations in Shirley's memory should be made to Congregation B'nai Emunah, Zarrow Pointe, or Tulsa B'nai B'rith Youth Organization (BBYO) c/o Tulsa Jewish Federation.

Services will be held Wednesday, December 28 at 11:00 a.m. at B'nai Emunah Synagogue in Tulsa.
