Catherine Margaret "Skilly"
Forsman passed away on Tuesday,
April 26, 2011, at the age of
89. Skilly was born in Oklahoma
City, OK, on February 14, 1922,
and moved with her family to
Tulsa shortly afterwards. She was
the only child of Margaret Frances
and Cecil Aloysius Swyny.
Skilly graduated from Central
High School at the age of fifteen,
At that young age she was already
teaching ballet. She attended
The University of Tulsa on a full academic scholarship where she was a Tri Delta and worked as an assistant to the Dean of the
Women's Physical Education Department.
In 1941, at the age of 19, she opened Skilly's
School of Social Dance, which remained open until 2009. Skilly truly loved Tulsa's teens. She was passionate about teaching
them to dance and helping them to acquire social graces. Skilly also dedicated her life to another passion: fitness. She taught
many devoted Tulsans to live a healthier life through exercise and the importance of eating right. All of her students were an inspiration to her, she wanted to make a difference in their lives. Skilly enjoyed continued
friendships with those she taught,
both dance and exercise, over her long life.
An entrepreneur and a devoted mother of four, Skilly also enjoyed her peers. She was a founding member of her
investment and garden clubs, a
member of Friends of Finance,
Renew Group, the Tulsa Garden
Center, Philbrook and Gilcrease
Museums, as well as the Tulsa
Ballet and Opera. Skilly donated
her time to the Tulsa Boys' Home
and to patients at Hillcrest Hospital with the gift of dance.
Skilly was preceded in death by her husband Marion Buckner Forsman
and her son-in-law, George Daniel. She is survived by her children: Mike Forsman and wife Pi, Karen Forsman Daniel, Pat Forsman and wife Elise, Dee
Dee Forsman Bishop and husband Robert; grandchildren: Tim Forsman, Robin Forsman Hausken, Patrick, Brian and Jason Daniel, Catherine Forsman Taylor, Chris
Forsman, and Mitch and Matson Hunter. There are nine great-grandchildren.
Skilly has requested, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, P.O. Box 3204, Tulsa, OK. 74101, or to the charity of your choice.
Memorial service will be held at Holy Family Cathedral, 122 West 8th Street, Tulsa, Oklahoma on Wednesday, May 25, at 10 AM.
