Rose Blend Schlanger
Rose Schlanger passed away peacefully on her own time and in her own way, much the way she lived, on Thursday, July 26. She was 97 years old.
She was born July 7, 1915 in Omaha, Nebraska to Louis and Bessie Fedman Blend who owned Tulsa's New York Bakery and Delicatessen. After moving from Omaha to Tulsa, Rose graduated from Central High School and attended Henry Kendall College. She married Jack Schlanger February 26, 1939 in Tulsa at Congregation B'nai Emunah. They were married for 49 years.
Rose worked to raise their three daughters and eventually joined her husband working at Tulsa Beef & Provision Company, where Jack was the owner and chief executive. Rose retired from Tulsa Beef when Jack became ill. She spent the rest of her life enjoying being a loving mother, grandmother, and avid lover of animals.
Rose was actively involved in the sisterhood of B'nai Emunah Synagogue, Hadassah, National Council of Jewish Women, the Center for the Physically Limited, and volunteered at St. John's Hos- pital for 25 years. She was an enthusiastic mahjong player, bowler and a golf fan.
Rose is survived by her sister Gertrude Weisman of Tulsa, daughter Barbara Selzer and her husband Jerry of Houston, daughter Andrea Schlanger of Tulsa, and Bette Wozobski and her husband Wynn of Tulsa. She is also survived by six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Rose was preceded in death by her husband Jack and her granddaughter Eydie Selzer-Goldman. The family gives special thanks to Drs. Chris Teter, Alan Keller and Richard Slagle. Special thanks also to her current caretakers, Colleen, Faye, Sharon and her long time companion Helen. Burial will be Friday, July 27 at 10 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery. The memorial service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Congregation B'nai Emunah.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Schlanger-Blend Kitchen Fund at B'nai Emunah Synagogue or to any local animal charity.
Graveside Service will be 10 AM, Friday at Rose Hill Memorial Park Cemetery and Memorial Service will be 2 PM, Friday, at Congregation B'nai Emunah.
