Sophie Mary Gorski passed away on June 24, 2015 at the age of 91 years. She was born on September 30, 1923 in Poland to Lucasz and Marianna Francala. Her formal education was cut short by the German occupation of Poland in World War II. She was taken from her home to Germany during the war where she met her future husband, Arthur J Gorski, who was an American soldier stationed in Germany.
When the war ended, Arthur returned to his home in Chicago Il and vowed to work tirelessly to bring Sophie to the United States. This leap of faith was accomplished and Sophie became a naturalized citizen. They married on April 25, 1950, settled in Cicero, II, a Chicago suburb, and began to raise their family.
Sophie was very content in her role as wife, mother and homemaker. She and Arthur eventually relocated to Tulsa, OK to be nearer to their children and grandchildren.
A devout Catholic who truly walked with God, she was often found asleep in her chair with a rosary. She praised God for every blessing in her life.
Sophie was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, her parents and two brothers. She is survived by her children, Arthur M Gorski (Mary Ann) of Prescott AZ, Diana H Millspaugh (James) of Tulsa OK and Glenn J Gorski of Tulsa OK; grandchildren Andrew A Millspaugh (Laura) of Tulsa OK and Alicia C Millspaugh of Tulsa OK. The light of Sophie's later years were her precious great-grandchildren, Claire and Patrick Millspaugh.
Sophie was a truly innocent soul. Kind, generous, unintentionally funny and loved by all who were lucky enough to know her. She will always be remembered, cherished and missed by all who are left to celebrate her memory.
Her family would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff at St Simeon's Episcopal Home where she resided for nearly two years, and St Francis hospice who devoted their time and efforts to ensure her comfort in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities or St Simeon's Tulsa's Senior Community in Memory of Sophie Gorski, 3701 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd., Tulsa, OK 74106.
The Rosary will be prayed at 7:00pm on Sunday, June 28, 2015 at the Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel, 3612 E 91st St South, Tulsa OK 74137.
