Sister Mary Cabrini (Catherine) Boland, OSB, age 92, died Thursday, March 19 at St. Joseph Monastery. Born in 1920, at Port Hudson, Missouri, the second of ten children, she joined the Benedictine order in 1938. She served with her sisters as a catechist in Blackwell, Tonkawa, Billings, Prague and Goltry and worked as a practical nurse and housekeeper at Paterson Hospital in Duncan and at the motherhouse in Guthrie prior to her debilitating illness in 1953.
When she moved from Guthrie to the current motherhouse in Tulsa, she became an eager participant in The Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges. For these fifty-two years, she has inspired, befriended and prayed for children and adults who have asked for her prayers. Blessed with a cheerful and gracious spirit, her words and interactions touched the hearts of all who knew her.
Sr. Cabrini is survived by her Benedictine sisters of St. Joseph Monastery, Tulsa, three brothers, Sylvester (Theresa), John (Marline) and Richard (Doris) and three sisters, Frances, Sister Benedicta, and Rose Marie, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday from 2:00 – 4:30 in the Oratory of St. Joseph Monastery. Vigil service at 7:00 pm Thursday, March 22 and the Mass of Resurrection in the Marian Chapel, St. Joseph Monastery, 2200 South Lewis, on Friday, March 23rd at 10:00 am.
