Sister Mary Brandt, OSB
Sister Mary (Thomas) Brandt died peacefully at Saint Joseph Monastery,
Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at the age of 86. Her death was the culmination of 68 years of service to God, and to the people Oklahoma as a Benedictine Sister.
She was born in Tulsa on May 11, 1928 and was the second of four children of Stephen and Frances (Young) Brandt. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Steve Brandt, Sue Ann Bradley and Rose Brandt. She is survived by her Benedictine Sisters, sister-in-law Betty Brandt, cousins and nieces and nephews.
She received her education in the Catholic schools of Tulsa and was attending Monte Cassino Junior College at the time of her entrance into the monastery in 1946. Sister Mary spent many years teaching business subjects and languages in the Catholic schools in Okeene, Henryetta, Guthrie and Tulsa. She will be remembered for her sweet smile and gentle spirit.
Vespers will be prayed Thursday, August 28th at 7:00 pm and the funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, August 29th at 10:00 am, both at the Marian Chapel, Saint Joseph Monastery, 2200 S. Lewis, Tulsa.
Contributions may be made in her memory to Saint Joseph Monastery Health Care Renovation Fund.
