Sister Agatha Burke, OSB died November 29, 2010 at Saint Joseph Monastery at the age of 90.
Anna Louise Burke was born October 7, 1920 to James and Florence Schneider Burke in Tulsa. She attended St. Francis and Marquette Schools and entered Saint Joseph Monastery in 1944. Sister Agatha made her monastic profession on June 14, 1946.
Sister Agatha taught and served as principal at numerous Catholic schools in Oklahoma, most notably at Marquette School and Monte Cassino School, both in Tulsa. She loved her students and kept in touch with many of them throughout her life.
She served on the monastery leadership council for many years and held the position of Subprioress from 1975 – 79.
Sister Agatha is survived by her niece, Cathy Campbell of Tulsa, nephew, Randy Burke of North Richland Hills, Texas, great-niece Christy Roothame, and great-great nephew Royce Harper, dear friends Sister Anna Addamus and Jude White, and the Benedictine community of Saint Joseph Monastery.
A vigil service will be held 6:00 pm Thursday, December 2nd and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon, Friday, December 3rd, both in the Marian Chapel of Saint Joseph Monastery, 2200 South Lewis. Memorial donations may be made to the Scholarship Fund, Monte Cassino School, 2206 South Lewis, Tulsa, 74114. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
