Stanley Lawrence Staubach, age 91, went to heaven on October 17, 2023, in Tulsa, OK.
Stan was born on February 10, 1932 in Cincinnati, OH, to parents Lawrence Baldwin Staubach and Mildred Haun Staubach. He graduated from Xavier High School. After graduation, Stan attended Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH for a couple years before moving to Denver, CO to join the Air Force in September 1952. After being discharged from the Air Force in 1956, he obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado.
While in the Air Force, Stan met his future wife Carolyn Gurney on a blind date. On June 22, 1957, they were married and made their home in Denver.
Stan and Carol's daughter Susan was born in Denver, CO. Shortly after, they moved to Boulder, CO while Stan went to school. Their son Peter was born in Boulder. After graduation, he took a job with General Electric and moved the family to Syracuse, NY. Their daughters Kathryn and Nancy were born there. In 1962, the family moved to Bethany, OK, still with General Electric. Their youngest son Greg was born in Bethany. In 1972, the family moved to Tulsa, OK when Stan took a job with Lowrance Electronics. While in Tulsa, he also worked for Crest Engineering before he accepted a position at American Airlines. Stan retired after more than 10 years at American Airlines as an Electrical Engineer.
Stan was a veteran of the armed forces, specifically the Air Force. He helped to design bomb navigation sights and then taught electronics. He enjoyed being in the Air Force and was very proud of his service to this country.
Stan enjoyed hunting during his early years, fishing, and spending time with his family. His family and friends will always remember him as a person who was very generous with his time. He was always ready to help anyone who needed assistance. For years, Stan and Carol volunteered with Catholic Charities. Stan would acquire cribs which needed repair/renovation, do the work and then donate them to a mother or family who needed a crib, and many times would deliver and set up for the mother at their houses. He would take broken appliances or bicycles and repair them. He spent his time and money to attempt to ensure that others had what they needed or wanted. It is a loss to the residents of Tulsa and surrounding areas, that first covid and then his health prevented him from continuing this work.
Stan is survived by his wife of 66 years, Carol, along with his 5 children - Susan Beavers and husband Walker, grandchildren Paul, Brittany and Alexi; Peter Staubach and wife Denise; Kathryn Perrella, grandchildren Sierra and Matthew; Nancy Peters, grandchildren Rachel, Daphne and great-grandson Hunter; and Greg Staubach. Stan is also survived by his younger sister Judy Perrella and husband Victor.
He is preceded in death by his mother Mildred, father Lawrence, twin brothers David and Theodore who died at one day old, and sister Mary Kamlowsky.
A funeral is scheduled for Stan on November 8, 2023, at 11:00a at Church of Saint Mary, 1347 E. 49th Place, Tulsa, OK 74105. A rosary will be held at Church of Saint Mary on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at 5:30p.
