As a young woman, she met her beloved husband John while working at the Pig Stand in Coffeyville, Kansas while John was home on leave from the Navy. Stella would leave Kansas to drive to San Diego, California to marry John. They were married in Whittier, California on March 17, 1945, at the home of relatives. They would later renew their vows in the Catholic church in National City, California. Upon John's discharge from the Navy, they returned to Coffeyville, Kansas, where they lived until 1955 when they moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, for John's employment at American Airlines. By this time, they were blessed with three children, John Dean, Michael and Kathy. They were married 73 years at the time of John's passing in 2018.

She followed her children in sports and cheerleading and made 100 cheerleading uniforms one summer. She and John loved Lake Keystone and after camping for years, built their dream home at the lake where she remained until the time of her death. Stella loved St. Patrick's church and was involved over the years in many activities.
