Obituary

Stephen Michael Upton, Sr., of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2025, at the age of 69. Born on April 28, 1956, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Steve was a proud lifelong Oklahoman whose life was marked by devotion to family, service to his community, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life.

Steve attended St. Catherine's Elementary School and graduated from Bishop Kelly High School, where he began forming the values and routines that would guide him throughout his life. Like many of his siblings, he worked at the family businesses-Upton's Supermarket and Upton's Texaco-before dedicating several years to law enforcement with the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office and the Jenks Police Department. Later, he transitioned into the steel industry, working at J&G Steel and eventually retiring from Chart Industries.

A man of routines and a meticulous planner, Steve found joy in the outdoors. He loved camping, hunting, sitting around a nice campfire, and relaxing on the porch in good weather. He was an avid fan of westerns, sports, and people-watching-always observing the world with quiet curiosity and humor.

Steve enjoyed making jokes about just about anything, and right up to the very end, he was working hard to make people laugh. His humor was a constant presence-lightening moments, lifting spirits, and reminding everyone around him not to take life too seriously.

Above all, Steve was a family man. The love of his life was his late wife, Marilyn, and together they built a life centered around their children and grandchildren. Whether cheering from the sidelines at football, wrestling, softball, or basketball games, or simply enjoying a peaceful evening outside, Steve cherished every moment spent with his family.

Steve was preceded in death by his beloved wife Marilyn; his parents, James and Sarah (Andy) Upton; his brothers James and Robert (BoB); and his infant sister Teresa.

He is survived by his children: Angela and Jeff Enyart, Stephen and Amy Upton, Samuel and Kim Upton, and Megan and Dustin Ennis. His legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren: Ransom, Phoenix, Gryphyn, Laney, Taber, Raedyn, and Dakota. He is also survived by his siblings: Terry and his wife Tracy, Paul, Matthew and his wife Mary Ann, and his sister Lucy.

Steve's legacy lives on in the memories shared around campfires, on porches, and in the laughter of his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Steve will be honored and remembered at the Keystone State Park Community Center, 1926 S Hwy 151, Sand Springs, OK 74063, on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 4:00 - 9:00 pm.
