Sylvia Braverman, 84, of Tulsa died February
12, 2013 after a brief illness. Sylvia
was born in Picayune, Mississippi, on July
18, 1928 and was the daughter of Jacob and
Jennie Carp.
Sylvia attended high school in
Gulfport, MS, and then went on to college
at Sophie Newcomb and later Northwestern
University in Evanston, IL. After graduation,
she worked as an elementary school
teacher in Chicago. While in Chicago she
married Dr. Irvin Braverman in 1954. After
the birth of their first child in 1957, Sylvia
and Irvin moved to Tulsa, where they had
three more children. Throughout her life
in Tulsa, Sylvia was an active volunteer in
the community.
She is survived by her four
children, Ellen, Lisa, Paul, and Joe, and her
three grandchildren, Michael, Jenny, and
Leah, and her brother Leonard Carp of Dallas,
TX. Funeral services for Sylvia were held
at Temple Israel on February 14.

one of her favorite charities, the American
Cancer Society, Saint Francis Hospice, or
the Tulsa Jewish Retirement and Health
Care Center.
