Terry Ann Brown - A Life Well-Lived
It's no mistake that Terry Ann Brown completed her mission here on earth on a Sunday morning when millions of people were gathered in homes or churches around the world to sing praises to her beloved Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Surrounded by her loved ones, she peacefully answered His call to enter her eternal Home on Sunday, July 9, 2023 after a completely unexpected and tragic stroke 9 days earlier. Right up to the evening of the stroke, Terry lived a rich and busy life focused on loving and serving all those the Lord brought across her path, particularly her family including her dear husband of 69 years, Earl, her two sons and their wives, her 4 grandchildren and their spouses and 8 great-grandchildren all under the age of 6.
Although she was just a few weeks shy of her 89th birthday, Terry was full of life and still always overjoyed to babysit for her great-grands, mend and iron with perfect precision, whip up her world-famous key lime pie and tend to her beautiful flowers. Raised by her grand-parents in her Tennessee birthplace but never truly having a home of her own, she accepted Earl's marriage proposal at age 19 and from that moment on, poured her immense love and talent into creating beautiful homes, often on a shoestring budget, for Earl and her family as it grew. Their lives began first in California, back to Tennessee, then in Victoria, Texas, followed by Luling, Louisiana with stints overseas in Sweden and Indonesia, and finally in Tulsa, Oklahoma where she and Earl moved after Earl's retirement to be near 3 of their grands and their 9 great-grands.
Above all else, Terry loved the Lord and reflected God's grace in everything she did. She was a beautiful example of the Proverbs 31 woman. No matter where she lived or at what stage of life, her ministry extended outside her family. Through the years, she taught children and adults in Sunday School, led women's Bible studies, shared the gospel and discipled new believers overseas, and shared a robust prison ministry in Tulsa with Earl. She was honored to lead others to know and love Jesus and it is very likely that she spent the majority of her life in prayer. She never stopped seeking to know God's Word deeply and was the go-to resource for Godly guidance on difficult passages and biblical counsel for any of life's struggles.
Her gracious demeanor, fun personality and beautiful smile enriched the lives of all who knew her. Once she became a grandmother, nearly everyone called her Mamaw even when they had just met. Although she will be sorely missed, we rejoice that she is now in Heaven, healed and whole, reunited with her youngest son Kent, along with family, friends, and countless saints who know Jesus because of her. There is no question that hers was a life very-well lived.
We know that Terry is not gone, she has simply gone ahead. The legacy she left here on this earth include her husband Earl, her sons Keith (wife Karen), Michael (wife Carol). Her grandchildren Elizabeth, Gannon (wife Kate), Jordan (wife Stephanie), Hannah (husband Peter), and great-grandchildren Maelyn, Bowen, Jett, Kruz, Beckett, Chapman, Banks, Trip, and her 9th grandchild on the way.
A Celebration of Terry's Life will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at 10:30 AM at Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel located at 3612 E 91st Street S, Tulsa, OK 74137. All who plan to attend are encouraged to join her family who will be wearing business casual attire in the brightest of colors to reflect Terry's love of color and joy for life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to either of her two favorite ministries that Earl and Terry supported using the links below and noting "In Honor of Terry Brown":
