Obituary

Theresa Young Alloway passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, March 22, 2016.  Theresa was born July 27, 1931 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Edith Hopper Young and Donald Paul Young.  She attended Holy Family Catholic School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, from 1st grade until she graduated high school in 1949.

Theresa married Patrick "Pat" Michael Murphy in 1953.  They were married for 16 years and were blessed with four children, who were the center of Theresa's world for the rest of her life.  After Theresa and Pat divorced, she worked as a legal secretary for several years before meeting the love of her life, John Alloway.

Theresa and John married just six months after their first date and were happily married for 38 years.  After their marriage, Theresa soon became a dedicated volunteer for Children's Medical Center, where she was justly recognized after 25 years of service.  Theresa was also a devoted volunteer at the Laura Dester Shelter and was included in a feature article about her involvement with the shelter in the Tulsa World in 2002.  Later in life, Theresa was a weekly volunteer at St. John Medical Center, where she joyfully provided assistance in the outpatient surgical area, in addition to delivering flowers to hospital patients.

Theresa always enjoyed throwing a great party, a good bottle of wine, traveling, entertaining family and friends at home, painting, swimming, singing and, more than anything, spending time with her adoring grandchildren.  Moreover, she and John were always ready to lend a helping hand to a friend or family member in times of need.

In addition to her parents, Theresa was preceded in death by: her husband, John Alloway; her newborn daughter, Mary Elizabeth; her sister, Virginia Young Johnson; and step-son, Arthur Johnel Alloway.  Theresa is survived by her loving children: Patrick Michael Murphy, Jr. of Tulsa; Timothy Scott Murphy and his wife, Cindi, of Los Angeles, CA; Diana Murphy Witty, of Tulsa; Vanessa Murphy Hathaway, of Tulsa; and her step-son, Guy Alloway of Carbondale, CO.   She is also survived by her brother, John Young of Tulsa; her sister, Mary Young Krugman of Allendale, NJ; her precious grandchildren: Adlai McMahon and his wife, Samantha; Zachary Witty; Victoria "Tori" Witty; Laura Bynum and her husband, Troy; Ryan Robertson; and Rachel Hathaway; and four great-grandchildren.  Theresa was loved by so many and will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Viewing will be from 5 until 7 PM and Rosary at 7 PM, both on Sunday, March 27, 2016, at Fitzgerald Ivy Chapel, 1402 South Boulder Avenue.  Funeral Mass will be 10 AM, on Monday, March 28th, at Holy Family Cathedral, 8th and South Boulder Avenue. Interment at Calvary Cemetery.
