Thomas Stanley Buxton passed away at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Friday, August 20, 2021. He was born to Thomas and Sylvie Buxton on September 27, 1931, in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania. He moved with his parents to Okmulgee, Oklahoma and then joined the United States Air Force, serving from 1951 to 1955. He attended Oklahoma State University, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1958, and Master of Science in 1959. He attended the University of Oklahoma, receiving a Doctor of Philosophy in 1965. Tom worked 27 years for Amoco at their Research Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as a petroleum research engineer and retired in 1992. Tom was a parishioner at the Church of the Resurrection from 1969 until his death. Tom volunteered for many years at Neighbor for Neighbor.
Tom (or Stan as he was known to his family) fell in love with Mildred (Miltie) Ann Swab while they both attended Oklahoma State University. They married at St. Francis Xavier Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They would have been married 64 years on their anniversary, August 31, 2021. Thomas leaves behind his wife, Mildred, and his four children, Anne, Yvette, John, and Thomas, their spouses, eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Thomas is survived by his sisters, Maxine Hinshaw and Marlene Strenge, of Okmulgee. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary, Betty, and Toby.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Tuesday, September 7th, at the Church of the Resurrection in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Tulsa Day Center, 415 West Archer Street, Tulsa, OK 74103.
