Obituary

Thomas John Maloney, 86, of Tulsa, Oklahoma passed away peacefully on January 24, 2019. He was born on February 24,1932 in Chicago, Illinois, son of Thomas Earnest and MaryMaloney, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his first wife Patricia Jo and his second wife Wanda Marlene. Thomas is survived by daughter Kathryn Jo Poppy of Tulsa; sons Thomas Patrick Maloney of Colorado Springs and Kevin John Maloney of Tulsa; stepson Jack Clayton Marston of Mesquite, Texas; and seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Thomas was an only child growing up in Chicagoand moved to Oklahoma City with his parents in 1947. After graduating from John Carroll High School in 1950, he briefly attended St. Regis College in Denver, Co on a basketball scholarship, before returning to Oklahoma to attend Oklahoma State University where he played basketball for the legendary Henry Iba and joined the ROTC program, graduating in 1955 with a degree in accounting. Following college, he spent five years in the Air Force as a B47 pilot. After his military service, he moved to Tulsa and spent the majority of his career in banking as a loan officer, financial advisor and executive with Utica National Bank in Tulsa, ending his career as a financial advisor with the United Way of Tulsa. Thomas was active in his retirement years as a parishioner at St. Pius X Church and the Church of St. Mary, and volunteered for many years at St. Francis hospital in hospitality and the Air and Space Museum as a tour guide. Thomas was a loving husband and father, and enjoyed reading, his volunteer activities and working in the yard in his leisure time. Visitation to be held on Tuesday January 29thfrom 5-7 p.m. at Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel (3612 E. 91st St. South) followed by the Rosary Vigil Service at 7 pm.A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church (1347 E. 49th Place) on Wednesday, January 30th at 1 pm, followed immediately by interment at Calvary cemeteryadjacent to Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel. The family wishes to thank all who gave their love, support and prayers for Thomas as he endured illnesses in his final years. Arrangementswere made by Fitzgerald Funeral Service.
