Obituary

Thomas Harry Trower died on December 29, 2012. He was born in Bartlesville, OK on February 11, 1919, the son of Harry Allen Trower and Elsie Mae Coda.

e is survived by his four daughters, Teresa Lee Trower of Jacksonville, FL, Tricia Trower Shelden of Palm Harbor, FL, Sally Trower Reubell (Charley) of Springfield, MO, and Suzy Trower Richards (Michael) of Tulsa, OK. Surviving grandchildren include: Amanda Aaronson, Charles Reubell, Sara Reubell, Katy Reubell Wunderlich, Patrick Richards and Joseph Richards. Surviving great grandchildren include Caden Aaronson, Colby Aaronson, Tatum Reubell and Kylie Reubell. His former wife, Sara Lee Vandever preceded him in death in October, 1979. Also preceding him in death were his sisters Merdece Trower Morton and Helen Trower Walker.


Following his graduation from Bartlesville High School in 1936, Tom attended the University of Oklahoma where he became a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity serving two consecutive terms as president in 1940 and 1941. Tom was also a member of the Scholastic Society, Phi Beta Kappa. He was granted an LLB degree in 1942 and admitted to the Oklahoma Bar Association.
In 1942, Tom was ordered to duty as a reserve army officer of Field Artillery, as a Second Lieutenant, serving at Camp Roberts, CA. In 1943, Tom was sent to the Pacific Theater of Operations where he participated in the invasion of the Japanese held islands of Kwajalein and was awarded the Silver Star for his performance of duty. Tom subsequently served in the invasions of the islands of Saipan, Tinian, Leite and Okinawa. Tom returned to the United States in November of 1945 where he was granted an Honorable Discharge having obtained the rank of Captain.


In January of 1946, Tom moved to Tulsa where he engaged in the general practice of law as an associate in the firm of Williams, Boesche and McDermott. Tom left the law practice in 1951 to join the Bovaird Supply Company where he remained until 1967, serving initially as Treasurer and thereafter as Vice President of sales. In 1967, Tom moved to Oklahoma City to engage in the oil and gas business with his former college roommate, William W. Whiteman, Jr. In 1973, Tom returned to Tulsa and practiced law with the firm of Houston and Klein until his retirement in 1994.


Upon his retirement, having been an avid golfer since age eleven, Tom devoted his time to golf as a member of Cedar Ridge Country Club and to his duties as Trustee of the Mervin Bovaird Foundation. Of his aforementioned accomplishments, his role of father, husband, son, brother and grandfather were his most cherished.


In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to St. Simeon Foundation. The funeral mass will be Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Christ the King Church.
