Tjin Tek Huang passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2014, 75 years young. Wanting to realize the great American dream, Tjin immigrated from Taiwan in 1971 with his best friend and wife, Chin. And although he had already earned a Chemical Engineering degree from the prestigious National Taiwan University, he pursued a Bachelors of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering at the University of Tulsa. Tjin enjoyed a lengthy career as a petroleum engineer, working for several oil companies and was only considering retirement from the Bureau of Land Management of the Department of the Interior as he was dedicated in his profession. Since continued learning and travel were his passions, Tjin journeyed to many states and countries around the world and returned home always planning his next destination, with Hawaii perhaps being his most favorite getaway. Generous and kind-hearted, he was willing to help anyone in need no matter how small or great the act. Tjin was also a proud and devoted grandfather to his six grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Chin, and his three children, Mike Huang and wife Clarissa; Linda Mei and husband, Bing; and Amy Huang Oneal and husband, Derrick. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren; Kristin and Brandon Huang, Parker and Bella Mei, and Addison and Mackenzie Oneal. A memorial service honoring him will be held on Saturday, January 18th, 2014 at 11:00am at the Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel with a reception to follow.
