Ulele Lois (Tarr) Starr left her earthly home on Tuesday, March 24, 2015. The fourth of five children, she was born on May 14, 1926 in Tulsa to Lois and Joseph Creason. As a young child she was adopted by her grandparents, Alice and A.M. Tarr. Ulele married her lifelong love, Delbert Sidney Starr, Sr., on July 11, 1942. Their union produced three children.
She was a strong woman with a can-do attitude as evidenced throughout WWII while she kept the home fires burning for her husband who was valiantly serving his country in the European Theater.
Ulele was the personification of entrepreneur. Through the years she developed an interest in varied careers, eventually settling on data processing. She founded U.S. Keypunch in 1969. Ulele was not only a pioneer in the data processing outsource service, but also established a keypunch school where she instructed, mentored and placed many women into the work force.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and four siblings: Clarence Buck Creason, Armenus G. Creason, Ramona Kragel, Nihla Moreno; and also daughter-in-law Judy Starr. She is survived by her three children: Delbert Sidney Starr, Jr. of Nowata; Sylvia Starr Wilson of Claremore; and Bernadette Starr Tarr and her husband, Kenneth, of Sand Springs. Ulele also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in the the name of Ulele Starr to St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Cleveland, OK, c/o Sacred Heart Church, 333 S. Eighth Street, Fairfax, OK 74637.
Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., with a 7:00 p.m. Wake Service, both on Thursday, March 26th, at Fitzgerald Ivy Chapel, 1402 South Boulder Avenue. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 27th, at St. Mary Church, 3rd & Chestnut, in Barnsdall, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at Ethel Reece Cemetery in Barnsdall.
