Veronica -- Ronnie to her friends, Mom to her six children and Grandma to 14 -- died Saturday, Jan. 29, after a long illness.
Born Veronica Hannah McNally in 1923, she lived the first half of her life in Bayonne, N.J., where she met Tom McCarthy at a basketball game. They married in 1950, moved to Tulsa in 1963 with Cities Service Oil Co. and lived happily together until his death in 2009.
She was an involved parent at Marquette School and an active member of Christ the King parish, where she performed for years in the "Cherry Street Follies." Though her main job was her family, she also worked for Keith Ward's accounting firm and volunteered at St. John's Hospital. She loved friends, fun, travel and family -- especially those 14 grandchildren.
Her family is grateful to the wonderful people at Baptist Village in Owasso and Seasons Hospice who helped to make her last two years happy and comfortable.
Survivors include sons Tom (Kay), Chicago, Ill.; Dave (Kay), Tulsa; daughters Maureen (Mike Vitt), Minneapolis, Minn.; Sue (Mike) Mills, Owasso; Jill, Dallas; Ann (Paul) Joyal, Reading, Mass.; sister Jean (Ted)Lewis, Charlottesville, Va.; and 14 grandchildren.
