Vicki Ihrig went to be with the Lord on June 7, 2024. She was born on January 21, 1958 in Frederick, OK to Caroll and Billie Hunt. A few minutes after she was born, her twin sister Gina followed. The family moved to OKC when the girls were in junior high school, and Vicki graduated from Putnam City High School in 1976. She attended Oklahoma State University where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. She left school after 4 years, just 6 hours short of her degree in Marketing. Thankfully she completed her degree in OKC and began working for Scan-Tron Corporation, as a sales rep covering the state of Oklahoma. If you've ever taken a test where you filled in the bubbles, Vicki was selling the paper and the machines to grade them to school systems.
Vicki married Kevin Ihrig on November 1, 1986 and they had two sons. Brandon Hunt Ihrig was born in Atlanta, GA in 1993, and Micah Paul Ihrig was born in Tulsa, in 1997. Early in their marriage, Vicki followed Kevin in his hotel industry job to the southeastern United States, first to the Mobile, Alabama area. There she got a job in the very infancy of the cell telephone industry with Contel Cellular. This was when cell phones were hard wired in to your car and you had an antenna on the back of your car. Some corporate guys visited her offices and told the sales team that one day everyone would have a phone and it would fit in the palm of your hand. The sales people laughed...look at all of us now. The couple moved once again to Atlanta, Georgia and Vicki worked for Pactel Cellular. Vicki was a very good sales person and earned several awards and trips along the way.
The couple moved back to Tulsa in 1995 so Vicki could be near her terminally ill mother. She was able to be a stay at home mom for several years. She did return to the workforce and found her true calling in children's ministry. She first worked for Asbury UMC in the infant to 4 year old area. She called the kids her "itty bitties". She later moved to Heritage UMC, a small church in Broken Arrow, where she was the children's ministry director. Her first Sunday she had 3 kids in the classroom. Vicki established a preschool program, a goal the church had when they hired her. This helped the church to grow and be more financially stable. Very soon she had full classrooms for the program and, more importantly, full classrooms on Sunday mornings.
Vicki is survived by her husband of 37 years, Kevin, her two sons, Brandon of OKC and Micah of Dallas, TX, her twin sister Gina, and nieces and nephews. The family would like to gratefully acknowledge and thank the staff at Legend on Mingo facility and, in particular, the wonderful people in the memory care unit.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024, 1:00 pm, at Asbury Church, 6767 S. Mingo Road, in Tulsa. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in her name to your local church's children's ministry or the Alzheimer's Association.
