Obituary

Vickie Michelle (Eddy) Buckendorf, was born on October 19, 1943 in Tulsa, OK, to Clyde and Louise (Harl) Eddy, and passed from this life on April 21, 2018 after a brief battle with cancer.  She was preceded in death by: her parents, Clyde and Louise; brother, Joseph; and sisters, Patricia and Teresa. She is survived by her husband, sons, grandchildren, sisters, brother, and a host of nieces, nephews, and their children.

She was the fourth of eight children and was part of the first graduating class at Bishop Kelley High School in 1961, and later a graduate from Tulsa Business College. Vickie met the love of her life, Mike Buckendorf, at Bishop Kelly, and they married on August 6, 1966, at Holy Family in Tulsa. They have two sons, Mike Jr, and Matt. She has two grandchildren, Nathan and Gwen, from her son Mike Jr.

Vickie went to work for Fabricut Inc. shortly after graduating high school, their 13th employee, and spent 44 years with the company. She was instrumental in creating the sample department and managed it for decades, overseeing the creation of fabric samples for all of the sales people and showrooms worldwide. To her credit, she never missed a deadline. Vickie was also responsible for starting an annual tradition at Fabricut, a company-wide Halloween competition, that often drew local news media attention.

Vickie was very active in the community, and several who knew her will have fond memories of the many times she opened her home to friends. Her family was recently selected to receive recognition as Family of the Year from the Knights of Columbus for the state of Oklahoma.  She served on various boards and volunteered her time to several charities, without ever wanting any recognition for it. These included: The Tulsa Cerebral Palsy Association, The Knights of Columbus Council 4721 Women's Auxiliary, St. John's Hospital Chapel, Holy Family Cathedral Women's Club, and Go-Life Mobile Medical. She also volunteered in several local political campaigns. During her years with TCPA, Vickie, her husband, and sons, were frequent organizers and performers for the annual Red Glove Revue fundraiser, which had been a staple of Tulsa philanthropic and social circles for several decades. She will be remembered fondly for her selfless devotion to her family, friends and faith.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to one of these worthy organizations: Tulsa Cerebral Palsy Association, Go Life Mobile Medical, Oklahoma Cancer Specialists and Research Institute, Center of Family Love, Holy Family Cathedral, or St. John Medical Center.

Visitation will be at Fitzgerald Ivy Chapel, 1402 South Boulder Ave., on Wednesday, from 4 until 8 p.m. and Rosary will be Thursday, 7 pm, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 5226 E. 41st Street North, Tulsa.
