Obituary

With deep sorrow and immense gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Viet Hoa Nguyen, who passed away on July 30, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

For more than 20 years, Viet, alongside his beloved wife, Rita Weng, owned and operated T.E.A. Café in Norman, Oklahoma. Together, they built far more than a restaurant-they created a gathering place where strangers became friends, friends became family, and every customer was welcomed with warmth, generosity, and care. Through his dedication and unwavering work ethic, Viet helped make T.E.A. Café a cherished Norman institution.

One of Viet's greatest joys and proudest accomplishments was serving the community he loved. Whether greeting longtime customers by name or preparing the family recipes that became local favorites, he poured his heart into every meal and every interaction. His kindness, humility, and quiet generosity left a lasting impression on everyone who walked through the café's doors.

Outside of the restaurant, Viet was an enthusiastic supporter of OU football and the Oklahoma City Thunder. He cherished time with his family, found joy in life's simple moments, and took great pride in the life he and Rita built together.

Viet will be remembered for his compassion, his tireless dedication to his family and community, and the legacy of love and hospitality he leaves behind.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Rita Weng; his daughter, Roselyn Nguyen; his mother and father, Lieu and Hien Nguyen; his brother, Nam Nguyen; and his sisters; Tiffany Do and Kim Xiong.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Nguyen Hung, Tran Thi De, Pham Thi Thu, and Nguyen Hanh.

A visitation will be held Wednesday (8/5) and Thursday (8/6) from 5-7 pm at Fitzgerald Funeral Service @ 3612 E 91st Street S., Tulsa, OK 74137. A prayer service will follow each visitation, starting at 7 pm.

The funeral service will take place on Friday (8/7) from 1:30 - 2:30 PM at Holy Family Cathedral 820 South Boulder Ave W, Tulsa, OK 74119. A burial service at Calvary Cemetery will follow at approximately 3:00 PM, with a reception at the Fitzgerald Funeral Service Family Center immediately afterward.

The Nguyen and Weng family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the community for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support during this difficult time. Viet's memory will live on through his family, the countless lives he touched, and the community that embraced him for so many years.

"I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;" - John 11:25
