M. Virginia Moran "Ginny" McCann, age 85, died Thursday December 8, 2022, in Tulsa. She was born and raised in Oklahoma City and graduated in the first graduating class of Central Catholic High School (Bishop McGuinness), the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Radio and Television, and ultimately Phillips Theological Seminary with a Master's degree in Pastoral Care.
Ginny was born on January 16, 1937 in Oklahoma City, OK to H.T. "Hank" Moran and Stella Duggan Moran, who preceded her in death. Ginny was also preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, John Ward McCann, Jr., daughter Laura Marie McCann, and her brother Tom Moran. She is survived by: daughter Kay McCann; sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. Stephen and Heidi of Ballydehob, of Ireland, and Greg and Maria, of Tulsa; son Michael McCann, of Tulsa; sister Francie Day, of Tulsa; sister and brother-in-law, Patti and Skip Walbridge, of Fort Worth; 2 grandchildren, Kassidy Phalen and his wife Kendall of Denton, TX, and Aidan McCann, of Tulsa; Vincent Santine, Ginny's second soulmate; and many nieces and nephews.
Ginny was a loving mother, a loyal friend, a gentle spirit, and a woman of deep conviction. In 1969, Ginny became a born again Christian and, from that point forward, she was on fire with the Holy Spirit of God. Ginny was one of the founding members of the Church of the Resurrection as well as long time parishioner of Church of the Madalene. During her career, Ginny worked as a legal secretary for Bill Newton and John O'Connor, then as Parish Secretary for Saint Thomas More, and ultimately in positions overseeing RCIA, at the Church of Saint Benedict and Church of Saint Mary.
Ginny's true love language was prayer. Throughout the last 53 years of her life, she would live, study, and attempt to live the life as Christ calls all of us. There are certain people in this world that have the gift to make you feel like you are the most important person in the room. Ginny is one of those people. Ginny fostered spiritual development of children, teenagers, adults, lay people, as well as clergy, through religious education classes, spiritual direction and retreats. And through her readiness to pray at any request, Christ worked though her to touch many lives.
A Vigil service will be held 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 14th, at Fitzgerald Ivy Chapel, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, December 15th, at Church of the Resurrection.
