Virginia H. McElwaine, 88, died February 2, 2013.
Virginia was born February 7, 1924, the youngest of 8 children to Nicholas & Katherine (Goder) Swiecicki in Detroit, MI. After growing up in Dearborn, she attended college and then joined American Airlines as a Flight Stewardess. On her third flight she met, and later married, a young Navy Lt. Dr. Laurence McElwaine, her "Mickey". They made their home in Tulsa in 1947 and raised 10 children. She then attended OSU Tulsa where she received both her Bachelor & Masters degrees, completing her studies at age 66. Virginia went to work as a dental assistant/office manager at her husband's office until her retirement. She was an original member of the Tulsa Kiwi Club (former AA stewardesses).
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings: Frances, Michael/Mickey, Marie, Tony, John, Ben, and Art, and husband of 65 years, Dr. L.P. "Mickey" McElwaine.
She is survived by her children: Michael, Michel (Dennis) Warner, Larry, Robert (Kathleen), Ginny (Joseph) Rohr, Karen (David) Franklin, Mary (Rik) Roszel, Annette (Tom) McNamara, Donna (Russ) McGuire, Suzy (David) Bringaze, her 16 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
They were members of Immaculate Conception and later Holy Family Catholic Churches.
Donations in her memory may be made to Catholic Charities, P.O. Box 580460, Tulsa, OK 74158.
Visitation will be at Fitzgerald Ivy Chapel 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 7. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Cathedral.
