On the morning of October 31, 2024, Virginia G. Walker passed away in her home, at the age of 97.
Virginia was born March 20, 1927, to William L. Gifford and Ella Marsh Gifford, in Ochelata, Oklahoma. She was born in the home and was raised alongside her sister, Charlene. Upon graduating high school, Virginia attended Oklahoma A&M College, majoring in business. She later moved to Tulsa where she was employed in the business office at McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft Company. There she met Albin Raines. They were married for 21 years and had two daughters, Janice and Joyce.
n 1971, Virginia's life changed when she married Floyd L. Walker. They were a perfect match. They not only loved each other but also shared a passion for the law. Virginia enjoyed being in the courtroom as she admired Floyd's skill and knowledge of his craft. He respected her intellect and appreciated her input in all matters. As his career grew more successful, they embarked upon their shared interest in exploring the world.
When Floyd became the first President of Liberty Tower Condominiums Board of Directors, Virginia started a lifetime commitment to her home as Chairperson of the House and Grounds Committee. She could always be found working around the building; cleaning, painting, planting, redecorating, doing any chore needed to make Liberty Tower a better home for all its residents. If you saw Virginia, she was working. If you stopped to visit with Virginia, she would recruit you. Every project was vital, and every offer of help was appreciated. Although the work had to be done on a shoestring budget, every task made the building look more luxurious.
Not only did Virginia devote untold hours to the beautification of Liberty Tower, but she was passionate about her own garden and creating a beautiful landscape. Her terrace was a showcase and was her greatest pride and joy.
During their lives together, Floyd and Virginia were extremely generous to the community and to their family. They were avid supporters of the University of Tulsa and together they hosted many events that often included both business and personal friends. The 4th of July was their grandest event each year, creating special memories for all who attended. Virginia was an exquisite hostess. She thrived on ensuring each guest felt welcome and appreciated. She was beautiful and made everything around her beautiful. She was loved and she will be missed.
Virginia is survived by her two daughters, one stepdaughter, one stepson, seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
