Wayne Tremble, Jr. was born in Arkansas City, Kansas on March 22, 1936 and passed away on February 21, 2025 in Tulsa.
Wayne's parents were Viola and Wayne Tremble Sr, of Blackwell, Oklahoma.
Wayne's family moved around during his childhood before settling in Blackwell, home of his maternal grandparents. He was an adventurous kid, telling stories of riding his bike across Wichita with his brother Frank to sell soft drinks at the baseball stadium. His family was far from affluent, so his stories also included his near-death experiences driving an old car with manual brakes. Wayne earned his own spending money with a paper route and by working at an ice plant.
Wayne was a 1954 graduate of Blackwell High School, and married his classmate Bonnie Ruth Parker that same year. Their children are Michael Wayne Tremble (daughter-in-law Luellen Tremble), Jeffrey Alan Tremble (daughter-in-law Susan Tremble), the late Richard Gene Tremble, and Sharon Lynn Tremble (son-in-law David Anderson). Their grandchildren are Morgan Laura Tremble and Jenesis Jean Tremble Inks (grandson-in-law Ronald Inks), and great-grandchildren Lexis DeNae' Cranford Moore (great grandson-in-law Dakota Moore) and Nathan Bryce Cranford.
Wayne and Bonnie attended all of the Blackwell High reunions through the 65th anniversary. He was an avid athlete, playing baseball, football, and basketball in high school, then coaching his kids' Little League and softball teams. He was also a referee for youth basketball. Wayne was a frequent golfer up until his 80th year, and scored two Hole-in-Ones in his lifetime of golfing. Sadly for Bonnie, Wayne's abilities did not extend to dancing; he was missing the rhythm gene and claimed to have two left feet.
Bonnie and Wayne took up skiing in their 40s, and became winter regulars on the slopes outside Salt Lake City. One of Wayne's favorite stories was hustling to get into the Salt Lake City airport to make it back to work on Monday, wrestling the luggage and ski bags to the ticket counter, and forgetting to go back to his rental car he'd left outside with the engine running. Apparently this is something that happens regularly, as when he called the rental company a few hours later, they were unconcerned - the airport staffer recognized their car and called them to pick it up.
Wayne and Bonnie played in several bridge clubs, making lifelong friends. When they moved into Crestwood, their first friends were Helen and Bill Pummill. Bill challenged the Trembles to a bridge game during their first meeting, and they were up for the fun. The last social activity Wayne regularly took part in as he grew frail was his weekly bridge game.
Wayne graduated from the University of Tulsa at the beginning of the computer age. He created a resume that was an early computer printout, on green lined paper, and was successful in his job search with it. He worked for Public Service Company of Oklahoma and Sooner Federal Savings and Loan for brief periods, then was hired by American Airlines where he worked for 30 years, ending his career as a manager of 50 computer programmers. Wayne retired in 1999, escaping out the door before the Y2K non-event. When he retired, the group put on an excellent dinner for him, with a skit and song they'd written just for Wayne.
Wayne traveled with Bonnie all over the world, seeing the sights and playing golf. As an American Airlines employee, standby travel was free, but not always convenient. Bonnie and Wayne spent the night in airports and unexpected places several times. They were members of Rolling Hills Country Club, then Meadowbrook. Wayne enjoyed a cocktail before dinner each evening and was a good friend of Johnnie Walker.
Wayne lived at Trinity Woods for 9 years, where he cared for Bonnie for several years before her death. The Tremble family are sincerely grateful for the care provided by the staffers at Trinity Woods to Bonnie and Wayne.
Wayne and Bonnie were members of St James Church for many years. More recently, Wayne attended the chapel service at Trinity Woods.
Wayne was predeceased by wife Bonnie, siblings Frank and Luann, and son Rick.
