Wilfred Ivan Sanditen, 94, passed away peacefully in his home on March 15, 2023.
Will was a philanthropist, investor, and generally nice guy. He had a mischievous sense of humour, a wry smile, and a glint in his eye. More than anything, he loved to crack jokes - and dance! He was the life of every party.
Will was born in Tulsa in 1928 to Samuel and Lillian Sanditen. He spent his childhood and adolescence in Tulsa before attending the University of Oklahoma. It was there he met his life long love, Miriam Jean Garfinkel, who he married in 1949. They remained married for 69 years until Jean's death in 2018.
After graduating from the University of Oklahoma in 1949, Will moved back to Tulsa and went to work at OTASCO, the family business. In 1964 he left OTASCO and started a commercial real estate business, and continued working in that field until 2018.
Throughout his life, Will was an active member of the greater Tulsa Jewish community. In 2006, along with his wife, Jean, Will was honoured by the Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art at their 40th anniversary gala, for his extraordinary commitment to the Jewish community and his dedicated generosity and leadership toward the museum. He was particularly proud of his and Jean's gift of four stained glass windows honouring their son, Scott, which are displayed prominently in the museum's front windows.
Will is survived by his son Harold (Thanasis Kalantzis), daughter-in-law, Jolene, grandchildren Brad (Adria) and Leslie (Frank Zigmond), and great-grandchildren, Sam, Will, Phifer, Scott, and Julius. He was predeceased by his wife Jean, son Scott, beloved dog, Paco, brother Dean, and sister Charlotte Richards.
Will and his family are forever grateful to his primary caregiver, Fabiola Banda, who was devoted to him for the last 5 years.
Despite considerable evidence to the contrary, until his dying day, Will still believed he could drive!
Graveside services will be Friday, 11 AM, at Rose Hill Memoiral Park Cemetery, in Tulsa. Instead of flowers Will may be honoured with contributions to the Scott Sanditen Memorial Community Service Fund at Congregation B'nai Emunah, Tulsa, or The Tulsa Day Center.
