Obituary

William "Bill" Leiter took his last precious breath and passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2019. A loving and beloved husband, father and grandfather, he will forever be missed.

Bill grew up in Morro Bay on California's central coast with his parents and his sister. In 1948, he received a B.S. in mathematics from the University of Chicago, and then went on to earn a law degree from Stanford University in 1951.  A stint in the JAG corps of the Air Force would lead him to Topeka, Kansas, and the Forbes AFB from which he would often drive down to Tulsa to visit his sister, who had located here following her marriage.  On one of these trips, Bill would meet Grace Leon on a blind date.  That was that.  He had found his love.

Bill and Grace were the first couple to be married in the new Temple Israel on June 12, 1955, and indeed lived happily-ever-after. Along the way, they would raise two children, be active in the Jewish community, and serve on the board of several charitable organizations.

While he was certainly proud of his family, Bill was also deservedly proud of his professional reputation. As a practicing attorney for 64 years, Bill's main areas of concentration were probate, estate planning, and real estate.  This reputation earned him the highest level of respect from the legal community, culminating in his admission into the American College of Probate Council.  He was known as being stoic and honorable, even those that did not know him recognized the lawyer walking to court in a suit and tennis shoes.

Bill was a remarkably intelligent man, but perhaps the three traits that sum up his character are kindness, decency and honesty. Sleep well Big Guy and remember that you are greatly loved.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, David and Francis Leiter and his sister, Elsa Ungerman. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Grace Leon Leiter; his daughter, Kathy Roney and her husband John; his son, Milton Leiter and his wife Michelle; and his grandchildren, Walker and Natalie Leiter and Madelyn and John Roney.

Services will be on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, in the Chapel of Rose Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum at 1:00 p.m. and a 4:00 p.m. Memorial Service at Zarrow Pointe in the Burnstein Auditorium.
