Rev. William A. Perez, O.S.A.5/4/35 - 2/11/17
Fr. Bill Perez, O.S.A., was born and baptized in Mexico City, Mexico with the name Guillermo Armando De Corazon de Jesus Ameiva in 1935. Fr. Perez enrolled at Cascia Hall in 1948 and adopted the name William, the English equivalent of the name Guillermo. He graduated from Cascia Hall in 1952 and went on to study at The University of Tulsa. After graduating in 1955, he entered the Augustinian Novitiate and professed his first religious vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience one year later.
William professed his solemn (perpetual) vows in the Order in 1959 and received his B.A. from Villanova University in 1958. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 9, 1962 and served at several schools before he returned in 1967 to his alma mater to teach. He was reassigned to St. Louis for three years, but returned to Tulsa in 1972 where he served faithfully for the following 16 years.
From 1988 to 1992, Fr. Perez served as a Pastor for two parishes in the Diocese of Fort Worth before again returning to Cascia Hall in 1992 to teach. He also served as Facilities Manager, Grounds Supervisor, Alumni Chaplain, and Director of Tennis.
As Coach and Director of Tennis, Fr. Perez became part of Cascia Hall tennis history. Many of his former players have fond memories of being handed a single rose he cut from his beloved garden. The tennis complex and grounds around it were dedicated in his honor, and an endowment for the tennis program and complex was established to ensure this successful program's existence for the future.
Fr. Perez was predeceased by his parents Antonio Perez Gomez and Maria Trinidad Amieva de Perez and brothers Juan Perez and Ricardo Perez. He is survived by three sisters, Luisa Fanjul, Gabriela Gonzalez, Josefa "Pepa" Prieto and one brother, Fernando Perez.
A wake will be held Thursday, February 16 at 4:30 in St. Rita of Cascia Chapel, 2520 S. Yorktown Avenue, and vigil service following at 7:00 pm.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, February 17 at 10:00 am in St. Rita of Cascia Chapel. The burial will be on Monday at Calvary Cemetery.
