Winifred A Whelan passed away peacefully at Methodist Manor on April 28, 2018. Winnie was born and raised in New York and in 1949 she met and married the love of her life, John Francis Whelan. In 1963 they moved their family to Tulsa and made Tulsa their home.
She was a member of Church of the Madalene for the past fifty-five years. It is here that she made strong friendships and grew in her faith and shared her gifts. Winnie was an active participant in the Ladies Club and the prayer groups.
Winnie had a gentle spirit and an angelic smile. She knew how to make people feel comfortable without saying a word. She was a devoted wife and mother and always tended to the needs of others. She worked at Froug's as a customer service representative, a job she enjoyed because it was assisting others. Later in life she was a passionate member of the Meals on Wheels team.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John F. Whelan, and her daughter, Joan Marie Whelan. She is survived by her sons, Jack (and Julie) Whelan, of California; James Whelan, of Tulsa; and Tim (and Mary) Whelan, of Tulsa; and daughters, Winky Whelan (and Dana Pula), of Texas, and Mary, of Tulsa; and grandchildren John, Christopher and Elizabeth Whelan, of Tulsa.
Donations may be made to Meals on Wheels or Catholic Charities.Rosary will be said Thursday, 6:30 p.m., and Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, 10:00 a.m., both at Church of the Madalene, 3188 E. 22nd Street, S. in Tulsa.
