Obituary

Zachary Thomas Monaghan died June 27, 2015 from complications following open heart surgeries. He was born on September 5, 1996.
Zach graduated from Union High School in May of this year and planned on attending Oklahoma State University with his brothers. He was a member of the Union Teepee Crew and the Cross Country/Track Team. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. And was an active member of the Kirk of the Hills Church.
During his short earthly life he touched the hearts of many. Despite the limitations of his special heart he had an enduring strength and determination that was an inspiration to all that knew him. Written on Zach's track spike bag was a quote from the distance runner Steve Prefontaine. "To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift." Zach always gave his best to never sacrifice God's gift of his life.
Our family vacations to the beach or to the mountains to ski, bike or hike will forever be etched in our memories. His laughter, warm hugs, beautiful smile, and sparkling blue eyes will never be forgotten.
We are sincerely grateful to Zach's medical team that allowed him to live to the fullest 18 wonderful years with his family and friends. Doctor Perry Ward, his pediatrician and Zach's cardiologist Doctor Kent Ward. His surgeons, Doctors Christopher Knott-Craig and TK Susheel Kumar. And the numerous other doctors and nurses that cared for Zach. The compassion and love they showed for Zach touched our hearts in ways they may never know.
Zach is survived by his parents, Kelly and Chris, his two older brothers, Taylor and Alex, grandmothers Marian Monaghan and Barbara Brune, uncles Greg (Sue), Jeff, Richard, Kevin, Brian (Lisa), David (Jenni), and Robert, aunts Monica, Sharon (Gary) and Loretta (Berry), and many cousins. He shared a special relationship with his young cousin Mabrey McNeal and his adopted aunt Theresa Clavin. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers Red Monaghan and Paul Brune, his aunt Linda Brune, and his cousin Reed Ledbetter.
